I didn’t mean to get so far off topic. My biggest beef is with Nestle blocking off public trails and tapping the water north of Cabazon in southern Cal. On the other hand, the nearby Mission Creek area was donated by Sparkletts. I think though only after finding a bottling plant there was unfeasible.

In another case , they were paying a couple thousand dollars yearly to the forest service and using expired permits.

I generally agree with you – I don’t buy bottled water to buy bottled water, only for the bottle itself. On rare occasions I may not have a container with me when I need water and I’ll buy one. I doubt many on BPL regularly spend a bunch of money on bottled water. Don’t we all have at least one if not more ways to filter it anyway? I can’t imagine spending so much on water unless absolutely necessary. And tossing all that plastic, because we don’t recycle here.

I generally agree with you. I like to put it through a thought process. Be aware and you’ll be right 75% of the time. Currently I’m using a juice bottle. Not much different except for weight. There’s a lot of us. We do make an impact. It is a reason to buy a dedicated bottle, but only if it’s used and lasts longer. Overall I’d rather advertise for BPL then smart Water.

The BPL bottle is arguably a superior choice in terms of helping the planet. A quick web search of “Nestle water bottling” will return page after page of links to articles branding the company a “predatory water company”. The fight against this company’s practices span the country. Recently we lost a court case to curtail the pumping of water from the aquifer in North Florida, specifically springs feeding the Santa Fe river. Additionally, the damage done by the proliferation of one-use plastic bottles is well documented.

Remember to vote with your wallet…it’s the only thing companies like Nestle understand.

So Coca Cola owns Smartwater. Am I mistaken? The only Nestle brand water I recognize is San Pellegrino which we don’t have here.

I imagine I’d use a BPL bottle for the same length of time I now use Smartwater bottles. So no plastic savings there, just as much proliferation. And I couldn’t remove and use it from my pack without removing the pack. Perhaps if someone wants to design a water bottle for purchase, they could make it similar to the most popular one out there. There’s a reason for it. Still not sure I’d pay more than $3 for it, since that’s what a Smartwater costs.

I found my smart water bottles at the local transfer site. I use it for a bidet . At home and on trail. Almost never use toilet paper. I taped up half the CuloClean output with white tape and marked the hole . More power and easy to see its output hole. Use less water that way. Will the BPL bottle work as a bidet ?

I was interested in the tritan bottle due to the hard side and type of plastic used to manufacture it since I have seen how my cold drink additives can leach some other plastics like platy bladders. I have also partially crushed my SW bottle when I lay my pack down and sit on the padded mesh back so I have been looking for something more rigid.

However, the cap size is not the same as used by water bottle companies so my Sawyer filter will not attach and I could not find a coupling that would mate the two. I really like using my Sawyer with the coupler to filter directly into a SW or Fuji water bottle.

Are there light Tritan-made bottles in 32 and 48 ounces?

On a typical Colorado Plateau desert trip I end up having to baby SW bottles to an unreasonable level to not hole them when hauling, lowering and throwing packs off ledges. I have resorted to using full-strength Nalgenes instead. My packs don’t even have the typical loose fitting side pockets that eject bottles regularly, and they still get beat up.

The Nalgene FAQ says that the majority of their bottles are Tritan.

Sure, but aren’t Jordan’s bottles made w thinner Tritan than the heavier Nalg line? Or did I get this wrong and the bottle we discuss here is really not that special?

The 32oz narrow mouth nalgene is 6.5oz or 0.2/liquid oz. Ryan’s is 0.6/liquid oz . He mentions replacing the metal cap can save 0.3 but I don’t know if that is the net savings when using a plastic cap nor where the plastic cap can be sourced.

Still wish he designed these with a 28mm cap (preference)or made it large enough to stick a steri pen ultralight in it.(2nd choice)
