By cold, wet weather, I mean days when rain or wet snow falls much of the time and the air is damp even when the rain stops, with little or no sunshine, so there is no opportunity for drying gear. The rain need not be heavy - constant drizzle for days at a time is harder to deal with than a few hours of heavy downpour. Strong winds add to the difficulties. Temperatures may range from the upper 20s to the lower 50s F (-3 to +12 C). To be a real problem when backpacking, these conditions need to last for two or more days at a time.
